Translation as a scientific discipline has developed rapidly. Several translation studies have analysed the functional approach in translation, the development of methods for translating cultural expressions and styles in translating cultural texts. Translation research also examines the development of translation skills based on regional songs, the development of translation of regional tourism text genres in helping to solve various kinds of community problems, both government and private.

This book, as a compilation of any ideas on translation, demonstrate that the competence of the discourse in translation becomes an important aspect to be possessed by the translator. To understand a discourse is not only to understand the meaning of words, the meaning of the syntactic structures, and semantics in general, but also to understand the social and cultural context of the relevant communities where the language is used. The overview of theoretical issues of discourse competence in translation hopefully provide perspectives to translators on how to transfer messages in viewpoint of discourse competence.  Therefore, this book is intended to provide further insight into several thoughts regarding translation, especially translation in the field of culture. This book is a collection of ideas from the author which have been spread through various articles and in this book are summarized as a collection of thoughts on translation.
